Judges 8: 23 But Gideon told them, “I will not rule over you, or will my son rule over you. The Lord will rule over you.”
When we imagine the real life situation and context of Israel history we notice that the people of Israel is right to offer Gideon, an authority to rule over them because he saved them through turmoil and great defeats from the hands of their enemies (Medianites) because of their sins and he is worthy to accept it. In fact, in the following passage Gideon did something unusual by asking the people’s earring for him. However, he had demonstrated the sovereignty of God in his success as a prime model for the Israelites and the people of God to humble before God and give all glory and honor to God by denying his worldly fame and reputation before people.
Indeed, we have nothing to be boast of our achievement on this earth, it is all due for God alone who is the ruler of our lives and souls. Many times when the success, achievements, good things happens in our lives, there is always tendency to adore ourselves, honor, and put those things for our own self-reputation instead of God. Every detail of our lives is in the mighty hands of God and every opportunity and privileges of human success should be address to our Lord, God for He is the ruler of everything on this earth.
There will be a time of highly honor and respected, or we may be put up to the top and first class among the people because of our accomplishment. But we are called to be more humble, more patient, gentler in due regards of our achievement and success for the glory of God. Let us dedicate our lives and give every single part of our live for God to inherit and rule them. Keep the room of our hearts to let God rule our thoughts and mind. God is the lover of our souls and He cares for us and rules our lives.
